CRAFTS: Video How-To, Thrift Store/Dollar Store Pie Plate Mosaic Bird Bath

Thrift stores are a crafter and gardener’s heaven, especially if you have funky, creative tastes and a tight budget. I am obsessed with mosaics lately for my yard, and if you go to my YouTube Channel you can see a few projects I have made that are popular. Mosaic tiles are very expensive, yet I do love them. I love how detailed you can get with your piece when you use those small, tiny tiles. But a small bag of those tiles can run 10-15 bucks. So I open up to possibilities.

The reality is, if it is water resistant and glueable, you can put it in a mosaic. That means broken china, glass, mirror tiles, bath tiles, floral glass stones, jewelry beads, rocks, sea shells, buttons, cutlery. The list goes on and on. SO when I had to help our Cadette scouts with their outdoor art badge, I opted to show them how to do mosaics cheaply, and by using upcycled items at the local thrift store and dollar store to keep the budget down. After seeing pie plates and the dollar store, I got the idea to make a bird bath. I bought out all the pillar candle holders at the neighborhood thrift store, as well as plates to break, buttons, glass stones and other bric-a-brac. With some silicone adhesive, a hammer and tile nippers and grout, we made some really lovely birdbaths.
